Just a few simple changes here and there could save you money! And of course help save the environment too, these are just a few energy saving tips for both electricity and gas, which could save you more than £200 in bills.

1. Drop just 1°C, hardly any different…
By dropping your thermostat by just 1°C could knock £60 off your next bill, and you can hardly tell the difference. Keep doors closed and try and find the cause of those drafts! Be more cosy too, stick on that knitted jumper your Nan made you. Another tip is when the sun is shining, open them curtains and let the warmth in!

2. Be cool with your washing…
Most washing machines now have a 30°C or 40°C quick wash, if your clothes aren’t dirty and just need freshening up then this is ideal to save you energy without disrupting  the freshness of your clothes. It’s also a good idea to get clothes hung up rather than being put in the tumble dryer, if you do use the dryer take the clothes out slightly damp and they’ll be easier to iron.

3. Unplug, don’t be a mug…
Get those appliances that you don’t use regularly unplugged, even chargers use electricity when they aren’t charging anything. Try to avoid leaving anything on standby too, it may be easier but they sure like to burn power. You’ll be amazed at the results these little changes can do.

4. Always compare and check…
Spend a little time every so often to just compare and check the prices your pay, you could find your paying more and could be in for a treat to save you some serious money.

5. Who’s that extra water for?
If you’re making yourself a cup of tea or coffee, empty that spare water and only fill the kettle to the amount you actually need. It will be quicker and use less energy.
